Happy International Women’s Day! I thought today would be a great occasion to share a recent video I made on Facebook live where I described some of the findings of my research preparing my multimedia lecture recital entitled “Women as Musician Entrepreneurs: An Exploration of the Works and Career Ventures of Fanny Mendelssohn, Clara Schumann, and Teresa Carreño.”

It has been such a great opportunity to create this program thanks to the support of the University of North Texas Institute for Advancement of the Arts. Because of receiving an IAA fellowship from UNT, I was able to take an entire semester off from teaching last year in order to immerse myself in this research and dig deep into the lives of these remarkable women, mothers, musicians, and entrepreneurs.

One of the best aspects of pursuing this research was the opportunity to connect with so many remarkable scholars who have created an incredible amount of works dedicated to exploring the lives of these women musicians. Special thanks to Anna Kijas, Andreina Gomez, Jesus Eloy Gutierrez, Juan Francisco Sans, and Angela Mace Christian. You can learn more about the fellowship I received by clicking here.

As part of this artistic musical program, I incorporated films describing the entrepreneurial lives of Fanny, Clara, and Teresa, in collaboration with the award-winning documentary filmmaker, Tania Khalaf.

I hope you enjoy watching this video and hope to see you in my upcoming performances and presentations in Denton, Dallas, and Washington DC. More details about the location of these presentations can be seen here.
